European Commission fined Qualcomm 242 million euros

The fact is that since 2015, an investigation has been ongoing, within the framework of which it was proved that Qualcomm management dumped prices for UMTS solutions specifically for partners Huawei and ZTE. As a result, the monopolist tightly strengthened its position, which eliminated the competitor Icera.

Private fight!

As part of the investigation, dumping was clearly registered, which violated the position and prospects of the Nvidia subsidiary. This was especially pronounced from the designated period to 2011.

The European Commissioner, who dealt with this issue, said that the strategic decision taken by the company restrained competition, which is prohibited by the EU antitrust law. Margret Westagher said that the fine is 1.27% of the company's turnover last year. It is worth noting that this story repeats itself, only now with 5G modems. Only now, instead of these brands, the main partners are Apple and Samsung. At the same time, the company, frankly, is blocking the road for Intel.
