A laptop for work is a portable computer designed for comfortable operation of the device as part of the implementation of work and training processes (computational operations, design, etc.). Unlike game analogues, in our case, the priority characteristics are:

  • processor power;
  • RAM
  • screen quality;
  • SSD capacity
  • keyboard convenience;
  • touch panel
  • autonomy;
  • dimensions and weight.

The main parameter is the cost. If you do not know how to choose a laptop for work and at home, you should consider the price / quality ratio.

We will try to help you figure out the optimal characteristics and parameters so that you can get a good model without overpaying for marketers.

Optimum processor frequency for operation

Optimum processor frequency for operation

For this segment of technology, the processor frequency is at the level of 3-4 GHz. At the same time, top chip manufacturers (Intel and AMD) can additionally equip products with turbo mode or overclocking potential. In addition to the frequency, it is also necessary to take into account the number of threads and cores, which directly affects the speed of information processing. It’s not worth it to focus on this, since most even 4-core processors provide for the launch of not only relevant applications, but also software that will appear over the next few years.

If you do not know which laptop to choose for the office, we recommend that you focus on Intel products, as they are considered more reliable and durable.

If you intend to save on a chip, it is better to take advantage of AMD's offers, which are on average 25-30% cheaper than competitor's products.
Now consider the optimal characteristics for different needs:

  • The processor for working with graphics - from 4 to 6 cores with 4 threads, a frequency of 3.5 GHz;
  • For mining - from 3 cores with a frequency of 3.5 GHz, with the possibility of overclocking;
  • For study - from 2 cores with 2 threads, frequency up to 3.5 GHz.

On average, the cost of AMD processors for work laptops varies from 3 to 6 thousand rubles. If you like Intel more, add 30% to the indicated amount.

Together with 4-8 GB of RAM, the above processors will allow you to run any utilities for working with graphic files, and even broadcast the picture on two monitors.

Choosing a laptop display

Choosing a laptop display

If you are trying to decide which laptop to study or work with, consider that glossy inventions are better than matte inventions for editing videos and images. But, based on personal experience and user reviews, their eyes get tired faster when they are used.
For processing graphics, video editing, it is better to focus on widescreen monitors with a good viewing angle. Standard 4: 3 displays are gradually becoming a rarity, and significantly inferior to modern counterparts in working with large volumes of information.
It is important to consider the place of work. For the home, it is more advisable to purchase a large monitor from 15-17 inches, which will replace the PC. If you will transport a laptop, it is better to take a 14.1-inch display.

To choose a good laptop for working at home, it is important to consider other parameters:

  • backlight - make sure that the backlight is uniform, there are no white stripes in daylight;
  • viewing angles - try to choose models with a good parameter if you like to watch movies. Otherwise, when viewed from the side, the contrast will deteriorate;
  • broken pixels - we are talking about places that glow in the same color. Not many manufacturers are willing to change the display when this problem is detected. Make sure the warranty covers the specified defect.

Speaking of manufacturers, the following brands have achieved success in the development of laptop screens: LG, ASUS, SAMSUNG, ACER, Lenovo, DELL.

Laptop SSD

Laptop SSD

Technology does not stand still and today no one can surprise a HDD with a hard drive. If you want to choose a good laptop for work, you should purchase a model with a drive without moving elements - SSD. The peculiarity of such disks is that they work on the basis of flash memory. For obvious reasons, they have a high data processing speed, they are resistant to mechanical damage, energy efficient. A clear drawback is the overpriced.

How much SSD is enough to work is up to you! In general, 250 GB are enough for storing several films, photos, presentations, videos, software.

Ease of use

Ease of use

In addition to performance, the amount of internal memory and picture quality in choosing a laptop for home and work, operational characteristics should be considered. For me personally, working for 8-10 hours for laptops, it is important that the device is equipped with a responsive touchpad with two easy-to-use buttons. Otherwise, the hands and phalanges of the fingers quickly get tired. Thanks to the good touchpad, the use of the mouse is reduced to zero. I do not need it at all when writing, copying text, working with tables and various software.

If you regularly use a laptop on the road, then choose a device with a good battery. For regular business trips, you will need a device with a battery life of 6 to 8 hours.

If you don’t think about how to choose a laptop for study or typing, do not forget to make sure the keyboard is comfortable. Typing from 20 to 50 thousand characters per day, I can give recommendations:

  • no FUN keys - even if you get used to it, it will be inconvenient on someone else's laptop;
  • there should be a gap of up to 3 millimeters between the keys;
  • optimal button height: 2 to 3 millimeters.

However, there is no companion for taste and color, but high keys are always pressed loudly, and this slows down the process of typing.
Finally, I want to add that any portable equipment involves compact sizes, and this is a huge advantage of laptops. But, if you intend to work long and hard, you should not save on inches even to the detriment of weight and size. But you should not buy a model of more than 1.5 kilograms, if you often move with a laptop.

    For me, a laptop without FN keys is almost impossible to find, I type in 5-10 thousand characters a day and it does not bother me. I will give my little advice for those who take a laptop for printing, the Internet and not demanding games.
    In terms of performance, it seems to me better to get a 4-core processor, from my own experience, I will say that the Intel Atom line is better to bypass. Battery from 4 thousand mA. The video card is likely to be integrated, in most cases it will be enough for working with text and the Internet. Other characteristics are for your taste.
